Why are Swords so Appealing?
July 24th, 2008 | by jim.pipeline |Swords are appealing for a number of reasons. They are a very romantic part of popular culture, and it’s no wonder that so many people collect them. You honestly can’t imagine a knight or a pirate on the silver screen or gracing the pages of a historical novel without thinking of swordfights. However, I believe the reason for collecting (at least for most serious and even casual collectors) goes far deeper than wanting to emulate their movie heroes like Conan, Jack Sparrow, and Lancelot. Swords are part of our heritage; they are the weapons of our ancestors, used throughout history for protection, warfare. In later years, they became signs of status and rank in society. I truly think that it is love of the history of swords, as well as the simple and deadly beauty that a sword represents, that are the reasons so many men and women collect these blades.
